Overview

THE TEAM

Shiaz Virjee will be the coach of a team consisting of a maximum of 16 male athletes and minimum of 14 athletes to tour throughout Holland and Belgium for 10 days to train and play local representative club and school teams.

OBJECTIVE

Train with the top coach in Canada and be gain exposure to field hockey as it is played around. We will combine both field hockey and and sightseeing to make this tour the most enjoyable Spring Break ever!

THE MASTER COACH

Total Field Hockey has partnered up with Shiaz Virjee to offer our athletes the best coach available in Canada as they train to become the best athletes they can be.

  • Shiaz coached and qualified the Canadian National Men's Team to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games
  • Coached Canada to Gold at 1999 Pan-America Games (Winnipeg)
  • Shiaz holds the certification of FIH Grade 1 Coaching Position (the highest coaching position awarded by the FIH to only a select few coaches)
  • Canadian Men's National Team Coach from 1994 - 2000
  • Shiaz is currently the head coach of the University of British Columbia Men's team

Shiaz Virjee is a top coach, with excellent credentials and results. Shiaz has coached athletes and teams to success in both domestic and international competition. Shiaz has a tremendous passion for field hockey with an emphasis on high performance. His athletes acquire excellent skills and develop into a cohesive, competitive unit ready to achieve success. Shiaz has a systematic approach to develop skills and create an environment that nurtures athletes.  He is also very results oriented with a motto of "no excuses – get the results". His uncompromising methods helped Canada to secure best ever results internationally.  He has excellent knowledge of the game and is able to analyze the game tactics and set plays for the advantage of his team.

THE TOUR AT A GLANCE

The Holland Tour offers a great mix of both field hockey and sight seeing throughout our stay in Europe. We will have plenty of time to visit famous tourist sites including Ann Frank’s House, a Wooden Shoe Factory Tour, a Windmill Tour, a Cheese Factory Tour, enjoy a Canal boat ride and much more. We will also try to organize a trip to watch a top tier field hockey match. We will combine our sight seeing with several training sessions and matches vs. local club teams.

PROPOSED TRAVEL PLAN

Thursday: Departure Vancouver International Airport
Friday: Arrive in Amsterdam on  in the early evening

  • Saturday & Sunday: Visit Sights & Sounds of Amsterdam
  • Monday: Depart the Amsterdam and arrive in Rotterdam to train and play matches
  • Thursday: Depart the Rotterdam and arrive in Belgium to train and play matches
  • Friday: Train and play matches in Belgium
  • Saturday: Sightseeing & Top Tier Hockey Match
  • Sunday: Sightseeing & Top Tier Hockey Match
  • Monday: Drive back to Amsterdam in the early morning and fly back to Vancouver arriving in Vancouver Monday evening

REGISTRATION

Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Register early to guarantee yourself a spot as we reached Tour capacity for our 2006 Holland Girls Tour and had to turn several athletes away.
